If you’re running an affiliate marketing business, you want to be smart about it!
There are hundreds of wannabe marketers out there who are doing it the wrong way. Don’t be like the bad affiliates who are wasting their time and energy running promotions that don’t work.
If you want to see success with this business model, you have to avoid the mistakes and develop procedures, habits and techniques that will catapult you toward success.
1.No reviews of the product.
You can spot a bad affiliate a mile away through their poor promotional material. They will rehash content form the product sales page and glaze over the basics of the product offering. They won’t offer any real information into why someone should purchase the product. It will be a purely promotional piece that won’t offer any details or real insight.
2.Not creating a landing page.
This is becoming less and less and less of a problem now that most article directories and pay per click advertising programs won’t allow you to direct traffic straight to your affiliate link.
However, some people in an attempt to save money try to avoid registering a domain and creating a landing page.
Creating a landing page will give you the opportunity to host your own review, emphasize the benefits of the product and give your own bonus products.
All of these can increase conversion rates and get you more affiliate income.
3.Not building a list . IMPORTANT!
Long term affiliate marketers know that the money is in the list. Bad affiliates let the product creators worry about email marketing, and end up paying for it in the long run.
Having a list means that you’re able to promote more than one product to your market. You’ll develop rapport with your list members and be able to convert more of them into buyers.
4.Focusing on the features.
Features based affiliate promotions are full of the nuts and bolts about a product. Contrary to what many bad affiliates would believe, buyers don’t care about the nuts and bolts. They care about what is in it for them. Be a good affiliate by emphasizing how the features of the affiliate product will affect the purchaser.
5.Only caring about themselves.
Bad affiliates are only concerned about what is in it for themselves. This comes across in their promotional material and their attitude toward marketeering.
While it’s true that most affiliate marketers wouldn’t be promoting a product unless there is money involved, that doesn’t mean that you have to look totally self involved in your promotions.
If you purchase the product yourself you are minimizing the likelihood that this is the case.
You can also do a lot with your tone in your articles and your affiliate bonus sales pages to make it clear that you care about the product and take pride in your recommendation.
Scan through your promotional material before you post it on your blog, send it to an article directory or distribute it to your list.
Make sure you sound like you have the right purpose in mind.
Sincerely,
-Gabor
